The Pinnacles

The Pinnacles, two hours north of Perth, are an easily accessible natural wonder waiting to be explored. Next to the town of Cervantes and located within the desert landscape of Nambung National Park, the Pinnacles are fascinating limestone formations up to four metres high that were derived from seashells thousands of years ago. The Pinnacles themselves are a must-see natural wonder on any trip to Perth. Include a visit to a beautiful beach, Yanchep National Park to see koalas, sandboarding on Lancelin’s amazing dunes and lunch at the impressive Lobster Shack and this tour is a great day out for all the family.

Highlights of the tour:

  • Koalas – Get up close to koalas on the Koala Boardwalk at Yanchep National Park, also home to Western Grey kangaroos and a variety of native bird life
  • Western Rock Lobster – Tour the famous Lobster Shack factory in Cervantes
  • Lunch – Fish and chips at the Lobster Shack with a cold drink (optional extra – adults can upgrade to a fresh half-lobster lunch with chips and salad for $15 per adult or add on a bucket of prawns for $25) Note: There is no option for a child’s Lobster Lunch.
  • Pinnacles – Visit the Nambung National Park to explore the amazing Pinnacles
  • Sand Dunes – Experience Lancelin’s iconic dunes and try sandboarding. Think snowboarding but at a much more relaxed pace (boards provided)

All of the above is included in the price of the tour. The only additional expense you may incur is for the lobster lunch upgrade or prawn bucket add-on.

What you can expect on the tour:

Koalas, Kangaroos and Bird life

This fun-packed full day trip departs from Perth at 8.30am, with the first stop being Yanchep National Park where you’ll get to walk along the 240 metre Koala Boardwalk and get up close to koalas as they lounge lazily in eucalyptus trees. Early in the morning you will often see the Western Grey Kangaroo grazing by the lake as an abundance of native birds perch in the woodland and wetlands. After an hour or so spent with these amazing Australian icons we jump back on the coach and head north up Indian Ocean Drive for just over two hours to the small fishing town of Cervantes.

Lobster Factory and Lunch

Once in Cervantes we visit the Lobster Shack to take a firsthand look at the region’s multi-million dollar lobster industry. The tour starts with a video presentation explaining how rock lobsters are caught and then it’s into the factory to walk directly above the 20 tonnes of live rock lobsters that are housed in the Lobster Shack. The tour comes with an audio guide in many different languages including English, Mandarin, Japanese, French, Italian, German and Korean, as well as a version for youngsters.

Following the tour, we sit down at the Lobster Shack for a fish and chips lunch (included in the tour price). If you’d like to upgrade to a fresh lobster lunch you can do so for an extra fifteen dollars.

The Pinnacles

After lunch we take a short drive to the Nambung National Park for a close look at the Pinnacles. The park itself covers an area of 17,487 hectares and provides a natural habitat for an extensive range of animals and bird life. Luckily for us there is a modern discovery centre which houses fascinating interpretative displays with details of the Pinnacles themselves as well as the flora and fauna of the park. We then take a scenic drive through the Pinnacles before setting off on foot for an easy-paced walk through this eerie yet fascinating landscape.

Sandboarding on Lancelin’s Sand Dunes

An hour south of the Pinnacles are the towering sand dunes in the adventure-filled town of Lancelin. Here you can admire the extensive sand dunes and try sandboarding using the sand boards provided (think snowboarding but at a much more relaxed pace).

This is our final activity, after which you’ll be returned to Perth at around 6.30pm having experienced some of the best activities that the region has to offer.

Looking to include a visit to a Swan Valley vineyard instead of the Lobster Shack? Then take a look at our ‘Best of Perth‘ tour which includes the Pinnacles and sandboarding as well.
